Macleay Valley Business Chamber Dinner; An Interview with the GM

UPDATE:

The March Macleay Valley Business Chamber Dinner was a great night, with a good turnout of local business.

It is estimated the businesses in the room represent over 700 local jobs across different industries. The Chamber works to bring business together to network and share news, opinions and to learn about the changes affecting our local economy.

Our Guest Speaker for the evening Craig Milburn was “interviewed” on the night by Tania Powick of Coastal Wealth Directions. The presentation was conversational and light hearted and shared little about our new Kempsey Shire Council General Manager. Here are a few things we took away from the night:

Craig has two key priorities that form his approach:

  1. One is to maintain perspective at both a professional and personal level. In his experience Council staff always give more to the Council when their personal commitments are valued. This is true for all business organisations.
  2. The second priority is all about relationships. The Council, media and Chamber can build a community together. There will always be differences of opinion but the quality of a relationship can withstand those differences.

Craig is passionate about building communities. His goal as the new General Manager of Council is to create a cohesive collaborative culture across the entire Council staff.

Craig’s biggest challenge is surviving another house renovation of the home he and his wife have purchased in River Street West Kempsey. He is looking forward to exploring the national parks and getting out into the country. And of course he is eagerly waiting for the real footy season to start as a Cats supporter.

The March Macleay Valley Business Chamber Dinner offers a unique insight into the newly appointed General Manager of the Kempsey Shire Council, Craig Milburn.

Craig will join us for an interview style guest appearance to share a little about himself and his future in the role of GM.

Craig has over 40 years experience in private industry, local government and the not for profit sector. In addition to extensive “hands on” service delivery experience, he has held positions, which have had a senior management and strategic planning focus at a local and regional level.

Craig is currently the General Manager of Kempsey Shire Council in NSW. His interests are in Australian/Aboriginal History and Culture, running/cycling, good food, and renovating.
