The Macleay Valley Business Chamber held it's August Chamber function last week on Thursday 23rd August where they recognised the contributions of local business as Awards partners and heard from Guest Speaker Elizabeth Jackson, 2018 Miss Kempsey Showgirl. The evening brought together local business members to meet and greet and share in acknowledging some of our generous local contributors.   The evening saw Certificates of Appreciation handed to attending 2018 Macleay Valley Business Awards Sponsors.   The evenings Guest Speaker Elizabeth Jackson spoke about her journey with the Miss Showgirl Competition; Elizabeth has lived in Kempsey most of her life.  She is 22 years of age and currently study a Bachelor of Laws. 84 per cent of businesses in regional NSW have been negatively affected by the State’s crippling drought, while almost 70 per cent of affected businesses indicated their local economy had been weakened, according to a new survey from the State’s peak business organisation, the NSW Business Chamber. The survey, which heard from more than 1,000 respondents across the State, highlights the need for immediate practical assistance to support NSW communities through this tough period. “The impact on primary producers needs to be front of mind. State Environmental Planning Policy No. 64 – Advertising and Signage (SEPP 64) sets out planning controls for advertising and signage in NSW. Changes were made in late 2017 to improve road safety and reduce driver distraction. Changes in SEPP 64 include: Banning advertisements on parked trailers on roads, road shoulders, footpaths and nature strips, excluding advertising associated with the primary use of the trailer, e.g. tradies trailer, and public authorities Requiring consent for displaying signage on trailers parked on private land in view from roads, road shoulders, footpaths and nature strips Allowing advertising in transport corridors permissible with consent from the Planning Minister or delegate, across NSW; and Minor updates to clauses, terms and definitions.
