Due to the current circumstances with COVID-19 (following Government Advisories), the Macleay Valley Business Chamber Executive Committee have decided that it will be in our community’s best interest to postpone this year’s Business Awards program. This includes the cancellation of our Launch event that was scheduled to be held on April 1st 2020. Our aim is to hold the Awards in the latter half of 2020. 84 per cent of businesses in regional NSW have been negatively affected by the State’s crippling drought, while almost 70 per cent of affected businesses indicated their local economy had been weakened, according to a new survey from the State’s peak business organisation, the NSW Business Chamber. The survey, which heard from more than 1,000 respondents across the State, highlights the need for immediate practical assistance to support NSW communities through this tough period. “The impact on primary producers needs to be front of mind. At a recent Macleay Valley Business Chamber meeting, attendees agreed to continue Chamber support for the Kempsey CBD Cinema project. While there have been changes to the structure of the funding model for the project, the Chamber continues to support the Cinema Project on the same principals that it will bring both social and economic benefits to our town. Kempsey Council’s media release “Cinema Funding Alternative” on the 22nd November announced that construction is due to go ahead for the project through a Voluntary Planning Agreement (VPA) which will remove ongoing risk away from Council. Once the draft VPA is completed it will be placed on public exhibition via Council's website.
